Spring 2006 Production

The Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui

by

Bertholt Brecht

Directed by Mike Ahmad, to be performed at New Wimbledon Studio Theatre, 6th-10th June 2006

The Play is a thinly veiled historical allegory of Hitler's rise to power in Weimar Germany during the 1930s. Each of the play's scenes relates directly to a specific historical episode in this era. Hitler is represented as a small town gangster by the name of Ui who by means of violence, threats and bribery assumes power in (for our production) a semi-fictional East End setting. True to Brecht's style it has a lot of black comedy with some song and dance numbers.
